Religious architecture

From the Roman churches of Pallars Sobira, we have still preserved more than thirty monasterial, parish and canonical temples.

Remains of the template and chambers of the Sant Pere del Burgal monastery comprise one of the most notable and singular examples of Roman religious architecture in Pallars Sobira. We find samples of the persistence of XI cenutry construction forms during a large part of the XII cenutry, as in the case of the Santa Maria de Ribera tower bell, of Sant Just and of Sant Pastor de Son, where Roman Lombard construction techniques are developed along with blind arcades, double windows and lesenes.

The most characteristic forms of the XII century are particularly shown in the Santa Maria de Gerri monastery as well as the unique Mare de Déu d’Arboló sanctuary.
