The Pyrenean Centre for Documentation
The Pyrenean Centre for Documentation (Centre de Documentació dels Pirineus, or CEDPIR) is a not-for-profit organisation that draws on images and interaction to inform and educate people about rural life in the second half of the 20th century. The organisation is based in a mountain village in the Àneu Valley, which is located in the Pallars Sobirà region of northwest Catalonia.
The village of Son provides the focus for a fieldwork project and typifies many other villages in the Àneu Valley. The project’s aim is to raise awareness of the realities of day-to-day life in this archetypal village through a series of fieldwork recordings, compilations of documentary evidence, and cataloguing and photographic work carried out from the 1980s onwards, revealing a way of life that has now all but disappeared.
Records relating to Son village that have been given to CEDPIR paint a picture of a traditional culture that was still very much active at the beginning of the 1980s, with centres of population since hit hard by depopulation and the end of traditional livestock-farming methods.

Video introduction to the town
Mentre lo Món serà Món
This is a documentary about the people of Son, one of the most important villages in the Àneu Valley. It was produced in 1985, when the village’s economy was still centred on milk production – which, for more than 30 years, was a traditional feature of Pyrenean valley villages. A full year of filming makes for a unique documentary in which viewers are able to take in the distinguishing features of each individual house, the traditional working methods, the spoken language and the various stages of production.
